Rectangular Marquee Tool

It is used to make a selection of the image in the shape of a rectangle .using the move tool and rectangular marquee tool ,one can cut out a selection. This tool has an attribute “feather” which is used to refine the edges of the selection.Keyboard shortcut is M.

Elliptical Marquee Tool

It is nearly identical to rectangular marquee tool and works much the same way.To draw an oval selection with it ,simply click at the point where you want to begin the selection and hold and drag the mouse button in the direction you need until you have the object or area surrounded by the selection outline. Release your mouse button to complete the selection. To deselect go to select and then click deselect.the keyboard shortcut is ctrl (windows)/cmd(mac)+D.

An alternative tool to Lasso tool. It lets one make a selection without any trouble . The selection is made by simply clicking on the image and it automatically makes a selection. This tool detects the edges of the image and once the user is done, the selected area can be edited without affecting the rest of the area. The keyboard shortcut is W.

Crop Tool

The crop tool is used to enhance a photo's composition by decreasing the file size.By placing the cursor over the image the user can drag the cursor and once the enter key is pressed the area outside the rectangle is discarded. The keyboard shortcut is C.

Eraser Tool

As the name suggests, it erases the contents on the active layer. This tool converts the pixels to transparent . The size of the eraser can be selected in the options bar or using the ] (for maximize) and [ (for minimize).
The magic eraser tool is an additional tool that deletes contents based on colored pixels.

Lasso Tool

The lasso tool is similar to the "marquee" tool, however, the user can make a custom selection by drawing it freehand. In it three options are available which are: regular, polygonal, and magnetic. With regular tool user can have drawing capabilities. Photoshop will complete the selection once the mouse button is released. The polygonal tool will only draw straight lines, which makes it an ideal choice for images with many straight lines. Magnetic tool can do the same as the other two, but it can also detect the edges of an image once the user selects a starting point. It detects by examining the color pixels as the cursor move over the desired area.

Graphic Design And Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is a very powerful tool for designing the basic elements of graphic designing . A user can manipulate images using actions , layers of imaging and styles . Creating the shapes, drawing and painting can also be used along with cropping, retouching and filling to create interesting graphics. The basic elements of graphic design that was used in the context of our project are :

Text Effects

  • First the background layer was created with black color as background .
  • Then another layer is created using radial gradient from white to black to enhance the logo.
  • A text layer was created with text Robotic Club multiple times to fit the whole background. Then free transformation tool was used to tilt the text layer at an angle of 45 degrees.
  • Then the selection was created by clicking the thumbnail of the logo layer .
  • After creating the selection the move tool was used to get the desired effect . This effect is called masking and is the most crucial step.
  • After that the mixture of blending options such as drop shadow and color overlay with the appropriate settings ,the typography effect was brought out.
  • The last part was to create a text layer with text robotics club of iiitd.

Backgrounds

  • A metallic background layer was created using grunge background images and blending options.
  • The next step was to create a similar masking as done in typography effect. To this masking layer blending options such as drop shadow, outer glow and color overlay was used.
  • To give the background the rusty metallic look a new layer was filled with the orangish color with blending mode set to overlay and opacity reduced to about 50%.
  • Then screws were added on the mask layer to show the effect of pivoted logo.
  • The last part was to create a text layer with text "Robotics Club of IIIT-D" with a little tweaking of blending modes to make the text layer blend with the background.
