HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR COMPUTER’S PERFORMANCE

Computer plays a very vital role in our everyday’s life. Using a computer, we can do anything precisely, accurately and quickly….But sometimes the performance of the computer tends to slow down due to various reasons. Here we will discuss about some of the very general problems regarding computer’s performance and their solutions.

1. COMPUTER IS TOO SLOW

A) CLEAN YOUR COMPUTER

Dust is a major killer of speed if you haven't cleaned it up in over a year. This can block filters, and prevent air from flowing through the computer. It causes the machine to overheat. It also affects disk drives and can even block USB ports and interfaces. Dust also acts as an insulator which can add to the heat buildup. More importantly, dust can also cause a short in circuit boards and integrated circuits causing computers to crash and, in some cases, even catch fire!

So it’s always a good idea to clean the PC regularly. It’s most important to do this before installing any new hardware. The main thing that needs to be cleaned regularly is the CPU fan. Dust on the CPU fan is the number one reason for overheating and slow performance. Also, lots of dust between pins and connectors can short the circuit.

B) UNINSTALL UNUSED PROGRAMS

First of all you should uninstall all the unused applications and softwares from your computer. Over time, you may have accumulated programs on your computer that you may not use. When a program is installed, it creates connections between the program and the operating systems. These programs occupy hard-disk space and sometimes a considerable amount of cache and RAM also.

You can uninstall these programs using two ways:-

1. THROUGH CONTROL PANEL

(i) Click START —> Control Panel —> Programs —> Uninstall a program

(iv) The uninstaller for the selected program will now get executed. This will uninstall the program from the computer.

2. REVO UNINSTALLER

Revo Uninstaller Pro helps you to uninstall software and remove unwanted programs installed on your computer easily even if you have problems uninstalling and cannot uninstall them from "Windows Programs and Features (Add or Remove Programs)" control panel applet.

Revo Uninstaller is a much faster and more powerful alternative to "Windows Programs and Features (Add or Remove Programs)" applet! It has very powerful features to uninstall and remove programs.

With its advanced and fast algorithms, Revo Uninstaller Pro analyzes an application's data before uninstall and scans for remnants after the uninstall of a program. After the program's regular uninstaller runs, you can remove additional unnecessary files, folders, registry keys and values that are usually left over on your computer.

You can uninstall a program using Revo Uninstaller using the following steps:-

C) REMOVE TEMPORARY FILES

Temporary files, or foo files (.TMP), are files created to temporarily contain information while a new file is being made. It may be created by computer programs for a variety of purposes; principally when a program cannot allocate enough memory for its tasks, when the program is working on data bigger than the architecture's address space, or as a primitive form of inter-process communication. Removing temporary files cleans up the disk space and increases the computer’s performance.

Follow the following steps to remove temporary files from your computer:-

(i) Select Start + R. The Run pop up will appear.

(ii) Write “%temp%” in the dialog box.

(iii) Click OK.

(iv) Select all the temporary files and delete them.

(v) Skip the files which shows error.

D) DEFRAGMANTATION

The more information and programs you have on your computer, the more it is likely that Windows has placed parts of the same file in different locations on your hard drive. It may do this for hundreds of files and programs, depending on how much space is available. Disk defragmentation helps in placing different parts of the same file present at different locations together at a particular position. Disk defragmentation helps the hard disk to access information regarding a file more quickly.

Following are the steps to defragment your disk:-

(i) Open Start + Q.

(ii) Now type in “Defragment”.

(iii) Click Defragmenter and optimize your device.

E) CCLEANER

CCleaner is a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and at the same time freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities, such as your Internet history. Additionally, it contains a fully featured registry cleaner. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Ad-ware! :)

I have found that this actually deletes your Internet info and other items a lot faster than using Internet Explorer’s option! This can also delete files that are hidden on your computer from programs that have been uninstalled. This also allows you to stop or delete processes that start-up when you turn on your computer. It also finds unused files that are just taking up space. This program will also delete programs off of your computer, much like Add/Remove programs.

Overall, it is a great tool to have on your computer, just make sure you read carefully when checking the boxes for cleanup. If you don't understand what it does, leave it unchecked.

Follow the following steps to use CCleaner:-

(i) Download CCleaner from https://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER.

(ii) After installation open CCleaner.

(iii) Click on Run Cleaner button.

(iv) Once the cleaning is complete, you can see the complete details of files deleted.

F) ADD MEMORY

RAM (Random Access Memory) allocates memory to all the current running processes in the computer. One of the quickest ways to increase your computer's performance is by adding more memory, i.e, RAM. Believe it or not, adding memory is extremely cheap, and greatly enhances the speed of the computer.

G) UPDATE REGULARLY

No operating system [Windows, Linux etc] is always complete, or perfect. Hackers work to get through the operating systems every day, looking for new vulnerabilities. Each week, and sometimes even on a daily basis, certain 'holes' in the Operating System must be repaired or updated, to prevent the hackers from breaking in.

Windows Update is one of the ways to protect the windows user. It is very important to the security of your PC to either set your computer to automatic updates [recommended] or visit the windows update program regularly.

Not only should you update your OS, but also your Internet Browser and Applications. There will often be many bug fixes and speed boosters that will come with an update of your programs, so check it out!

To find Windows Update use the following steps:-

(i) Click Start —> Control Panel.

(ii) Click System and Security.

(iii) Open Windows Update —> Turn automatic updating ON or OFF.

(iv) Select install updates automatically
